ISO releases nuclear medicine monitoring standard

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published a new standard that covers the dosimetric monitoring of medical staff in nuclear medicine and therapy departments.

The standard is titled "ISO 16637:2016, Radiological protection -- Monitoring and internal dosimetry for staff members exposed to medical radionuclides as unsealed sources." It specifies requirements for designing programs to monitor workers exposed to the risk of internal contamination via inhalation in nuclear medicine and therapy departments, according to the organization.

ISO 16637 complements a number of current ISO monitoring and dose-assessment standards, including ISO 20553, ISO 27048, and ISO 28218, the organization said.

The new standard can be found here.
