GE launches cyclotron, PET tracer system at SNMMI 2015

GE Healthcare has launched a new cyclotron and a new version of its PET tracer production platform at the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) 2015 meeting.

GENtrace is GE's third cyclotron used to produce the isotope fluorine-18 (F-18), which provides the foundation for PET tracer manufacturing. The firm's latest cyclotron has more automated steps, takes up less space, and can be operated by a nuclear medicine technician, GE said.

FASTlab 2 is a PET tracer production platform that contains an automated cassette-based system. Users are able to operate two independent FASTlab 2 systems performing multiple runs in the same hot cell. FDG Duo is a new cassette that complements the existing FASTlab cassette portfolio, with integrated reagents allowing users to perform two consecutive FDG citrate runs without having to open the hot cell door.

FASTlab 2 also allows the use of tracer applications from third-party research partners and can help with the development of additional tracers due to two built-in reactors.

GE is marketing both the GENtrace cyclotron and FASTlab 2 as a package called TRACERcenter VIP.

GENtrace and FASTlab 2 have not yet received the CE Mark.
