Montreal facility cited for cyclotron issues

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has ordered the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital to stop producing radiolabeled tracers for medical and research purposes.

The March 2 order follows a CNSC inspection of the institute's cyclotron facility that identified a number of noncompliance issues, including inadequate measures to prevent radioactive contamination in the facility and an insufficient number of qualified workers to conduct licensed activities safely.

To regain its license, the facility is required to train a sufficient number of workers, install a radiation monitor in the production area, and implement adequate controls to prevent radioactive contamination.
