Idaho radiology practice wins $52M lawsuit

The Idaho Supreme Court has affirmed a jury verdict in MRI Associates' $52 million lawsuit versus Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center.

The ruling is the last in a legal battle between the two parties that began in 2004, according to law firm Andersen Banducci, which represented MRI Associates in the case. Two separate juries had found Saint Alphonsus liable for establishing and supporting a competitor of MRI Associates while still a partner in MRI Associates, and interfering with the relationships between MRI Associates and the physicians who had previously referred their patients to MRI Associates for MRI scans, Andersen Banducci said in a statement.

Saint Alphonsus filed an appeal with the Idaho Supreme Court after the last jury verdict. On Tuesday, the Idaho Supreme Court affirmed jury verdicts finding that Saint Alphonsus misappropriated profits from its partners, Andersen Banducci said.

MRI Associates was formed in 1985 as a partnership among a group of hospitals, physicians, and radiologists to bring MRI technology to medical centers in Idaho and Oregon.
