ACR updates appropriateness criteria

The American College of Radiology (ACR) has released updated appropriateness criteria to help healthcare providers choose the most appropriate medical imaging exam, radiologic interventional procedure, or radiation therapy for more than 1,050 clinical indications.

In the latest version, ACR updated 19 topics and added three new criteria, covering clinically suspected pulmonary arteriovenous malformation, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and adjuvant therapy in vulvar cancer.

The ACR Select software developed by National Decision Support contains the digital version of the ACR Appropriateness Criteria diagnostic topics. The software can be integrated with computerized ordering or electronic health record (EHR) systems to guide providers when they order medical imaging scans.
