ACR updates appropriateness criteria

The American College of Radiology (ACR) has added five new topics and revised seven others in the latest release of its ACR Appropriateness Criteria.

The new topics are as follows:

  • Imaging of deep inferior epigastric arteries for surgical planning (breast reconstruction surgery)
  • Staging of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma
  • Suspected thoracic aortic aneurysm
  • Tinnitus
  • Radiologic management of central venous access

In addition, the ACR has recently revised seven other topics:

  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm -- interventional planning and follow-up
  • Breast cancer screening
  • Chronic liver disease
  • Chronic wrist pain
  • Imaging for transcatheter aortic valve replacement
  • Multiple gestations
  • Ovarian cancer screening

The latest edition covers 178 diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology topics with 890 clinical variants, according to the ACR. In total, the update includes 1,570 clinical scenarios.
