Radiology student's disappearance baffles authorities

Authorities in Alabama are "baffled" by the story of a radiology student in Alabama who said she spent 28 days lost and wandering in the wilderness until she was found naked by the side of a country road.

Lisa Theris was rescued on August 12 by a passing motorist who saw her by the side of the road and at first thought she was a dead animal, according to a report on the website of Alabama television station WSFA. She was covered in scars from bug bites and poison ivy, and she told authorities that she survived by eating berries and mushrooms and drinking water from puddles.

But Theris' story is baffling to some, according to an August 17 news report on ABC's "Good Morning America" program.

"This is hard to believe," said a television reporter introducing the story. "And there's so much to this that is not being said this morning."

Police are still investigating how she got lost in the first place; she told authorities that she entered the woods with two men who were later arrested for burglarizing a hunting lodge. Police told reporters that they believe Theris got lost in the woods, but that "there's a lot more to the story."

Theris is studying to become a radiologic technologist at Wallace Community College and now plans to focus on her studies, according to the WSFA story.
