Berlin, Hillman recognized for radiology leadership

Drs. Leonard Berlin and Bruce Hillman have been recognized for their leadership in radiology by the Radiology Leadership Institute (RLI) with its 2015 Leadership Luminary Award.

RLI named the two as recipients of the award at its recent leadership summit held at Babson College in Wellesley, MA. The award is intended to distinguish and celebrate the lifetime achievements of individuals who have "elevated the RLI's vision in radiology, embodying both leadership and innovation in their actions and legacy," according to the institute.

Berlin is a radiology professor at both Rush Medical College and the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He has written more than 430 scientific publications, seven book chapters, and a book titled Malpractice Issues in Radiology, now in its third edition. He has also presented more than 385 lectures on various medical subjects, both nationally and internationally, primarily on the topic of radiologic malpractice and risk management. Additionally, Berlin delivered the annual oration at RSNA 2012.

Hillman is a professor of radiology and public health sciences at the University of Virginia (UVA). He was chair of the department of radiology and president of the UVA Health Services Foundation, the UVA physicians' professional corporation. He has served as founding editor of the Journal of the American College of Radiology since 2003.

From 1999 to 2007, Hillman was the founding principal investigator and chair of the American College of Radiology Imaging Network. He has published more than 180 peer-reviewed journal articles and 200 book chapters, review articles, and editorials. He has been president of five radiological societies and a member of the ACR Board of Chancellors since 1997. He was previously the editor in chief of Investigative Radiology and founding editor in chief of Academic Radiology.

Nominations for the 2016 RLI Leadership Luminary Award will open in November. Winners will be announced at RLI's leadership summit in September 2016 at Babson College.
