Ky. x-ray tech pleads guilty to fraud charges

A radiologic technologist from Kentucky pleaded guilty on May 2 to federal charges that he allowed an unlicensed individual to administer x-rays to Medicare and Medicaid patients from Kentucky and Ohio.

Robert Moyer pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud after the U.S. government accused him of filing more than 3,800 Medicare and Medicaid claims worth $112,000. Court records indicate that between June and December 2010, Moyer allowed an unlicensed individual to perform the x-rays and then falsified documentation related to the studies.

Under U.S. law, federal programs only reimburse medical professionals for services performed by licensed individuals.

Moyer appeared in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. He will be sentenced on July 16 and faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.
