Siemens to highlight new SPECT, CT systems at SNMMI

Siemens Healthcare plans to highlight new PET/CT and SPECT systems at the upcoming Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) meeting in Baltimore.

Siemens' Biograph RT Pro is the latest addition to its Biograph mCT family of PET/CT systems for radiation therapy treatment and planning. It includes Siemens' HD FoV Pro algorithm, which improves visibility outside the scan field-of-view, and features iterative metal artifact reduction (iMAR). The iMAR algorithm produces images with less metal artifact distortion caused by hip implants, shoulder prostheses, dental fillings, and other forms of implanted metal, Siemens said.

In addition, Biograph RT Pro includes the company's t-MIP tool, which helps visualize tumor movement in a single image; its advanced modeled iterative reconstruction (ADMIRE) CT algorithm; and its TwinBeam dual-energy tool, which allows for simultaneous acquisition of data from high- and low-energy spectra.

All of these Biograph RT Pro features are pending clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to the firm.

In other SNMMI news, the company will show its Symbia Evo SPECT system. The device automates routine manual tasks with its automated quality control and automated collimator changer, and it includes HD detector technology. Its detector flexibility supports stretcher and hospital bed imaging, and the patient bed supports patients up to 500 lb, Siemens said.
