Siemens gets FDA nod for new iterative recon version

Siemens Healthcare has received the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's 510(k) clearance for its third-generation advanced modeled iterative reconstruction (ADMIRE) algorithm, the company announced.

ADMIRE improves the image quality of reconstructed images, providing a more natural image impression than previous algorithms, while offering new levels of dose reduction, the company said. The new software scheme supplements rather than replaces the firm's earlier sinogram-affirmed iterative reconstruction (SAFIRE) software, a raw data-based iterative reconstruction algorithm that can provide dose reductions of up to 60%, Siemens said.

Available on the firm's new Somatom Force dual-source CT system, ADMIRE can be used together with SAFIRE to provide low-dose images that maintain image quality and preserve the visual impression of CT images, the company said. ADMIRE achieves these enhancements by providing additional modeling loops that deliver improved resolution at high-contrast edges, Siemens said.
