Carestream, NY center test CBCT system

Carestream Health is collaborating with a sports medicine facility in the state of New York to test a 3D conebeam CT (CBCT) scanner it is developing for orthopedic applications.

Carestream and UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, based in Williamsville, NY, are beginning clinical studies with the 3D CBCT system at Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, NY. UBMD physicians and Carestream researchers will assess the technology for use in imaging extremities, such as the knees, legs, feet, arms, and hands, Carestream said.

The studies will help the company develop compact and affordable CBCT systems for hospitals, clinics, and sports medicine providers that deliver less radiation than traditional CT.

The CBCT system is a work-in-progress and not yet available commercially, according to Carestream.
