Mazor Robotics launches 3D image guidance

Mazor Robotics has launched its C-OnSite enhancement to its Renaissance surgical guidance system for spine procedures.

C-OnSite enables intraoperative 3D verification of implant placement using a low-radiation-dose technique, based on imagery from any standard 2D C-arm, according to Mazor.

The most common way to accurately verify the placement of pedicle screws is by postoperative CT, which occurs after surgery has been completed; significant misplacements require additional surgery, Mazor said. C-OnSite uses images from existing 2D C-arms instead.

A 15-sec C-arm scan is performed after screw positioning, and these images are fused with images from the preoperative CT to produce an intraoperative 3D axial view of the spine, showing the exact location of each pedicle screw and its relationship to the spinal canal, according to Mazor.

All Renaissance systems sold after May 28, 2012, will include the C-OnSite application, the company said.
