Mazor debuts new surgical guidance platform

Surgical visualization technology developer Mazor Robotics has introduced Mazor X, a new surgical guidance platform for spine surgeries.

Mazor X offers preoperative analytics, intraoperative guidance, and real-time 3D verification, according to the vendor. Preoperative analytics capabilities are provided by a software suite designed to assess spinal alignment and then perform full surgical planning, Mazor said. The firm's X-Align module combines biomechanical logic and virtual surgical software with computerized alignment calculations to streamline planning.

Precision mechanics and a bed-attached, bone-mounted surgical arm combine to guide surgical tools and synergistic implants, Mazor said. In addition, real-time 3D verification enables surgeons to confirm the execution and reconciliation of surgical plans using 2D fluoroscopy-based technology, visual tracking, or intraoperative imaging systems, according to the vendor.

Mazor X will launch commercially in October at the North American Spine Society annual meeting in Boston. The company said it recently inked a copromotion and codevelopment agreement with Medtronic, which has already placed an order to buy 15 Mazor X systems.
