Former Siemens chief lands at Deerfield

The former president and CEO of Siemens Healthcare North America, Dr. Gregory Sorensen, has been named executive chairman at Deerfield Imaging, the image-guided therapy firm previously known as IMRIS.

Sorensen left Siemens on October 1 after leading the vendor's North American division for four and a half years. Prior to Siemens, he was a professor of radiology and health sciences and technology at Harvard University, and he also held an appointment at Massachusetts General Hospital.

At Deerfield Imaging, Sorensen will provide strategic and operational guidance, drawing on his clinical and business experience in both image-guided surgery and neuroradiology.

Deerfield Imaging's parent company, investment firm Deerfield Management, took control of IMRIS in August by buying the company's assets and liabilities after IMRIS filed for bankruptcy protection in May. Deerfield Imaging now sells image-guided surgical systems under the IMRIS brand.
