McKesson to acquire ALI Technologies

San Francisco-based McKesson has signed a deal to acquire Canadian PACS developer ALI Technologies, in a cash tender stock purchase valued at $340 million U.S. The deal is expected to close within 90 days, and is subject to regulatory approval and other customary conditions, McKesson said.

The acquisition of Vancouver, B.C.-based ALI. enables McKesson to expand its Horizon Clinicals offering to include data, documents, voice and medical images. Horizon Clinicals provides integrated data management solutions for physicians and other clinicians in multiple care settings. The acquisition is expected to enhance McKesson's image management product line, and thus its market momentum, McKesson said.

ALI reported sales of nearly $40 million U.S. for the fiscal year (end March 31, 2002), with revenue growth in its most recent quarter up 108% compared to the same quarter last year. Net income in the quarter increased 450% from the prior year. ALI has an installed base of more than 500 ultrasound and PACS networks in the U.S. and Canada, according to McKesson.

Graham King, president of McKesson Information Solutions, said the firm will deploy ALI's medical image management solutions in conjunction with McKesson's Horizon Physician Portal to give clinicians integrated access to the complete patient record.
