ARMRIT techs meet MRI accreditation rules

Radiologic technologists registered with the American Registry of MRI Technologists (ARMRIT) have been recognized as meeting the American College of Radiology's (ACR) MRI accreditation qualifications.

The ACR's MRI accreditation program includes a number of requirements that MRI facilities must meet to achieve certification by the Reston, VA-based society. ACR MRI accreditation is becoming increasingly used by private payors as a means of ensuring quality in the provision of imaging services. The ACR will also participate in federal accreditation requirements as mandated by the recently passed Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008.

The ACR's program includes requirements covering the qualifications of MRI facility personnel, including technologists. With the new announcement, MRI center technologists must now be accredited by either ARMRIT, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT).
