Dutch radiopharmaceutical producer Nuclear Research and Consultancy Group (NRG) is looking for another company to develop its 80-megawatt Pallas nuclear reactor in Petten, Netherlands.
NRG today reversed its selection of the Argentine/Spanish partnership Invap-Isolux to head development of the project. NRG gave no specific reason for its decision, other than to announce it has "extended the preparatory phase of the new research reactor Pallas. The expectation, now, is to make the final choice for the vendor by the end of 2010."
NRG initially began accepting requests for proposal to build the project in December 2007. Offers were submitted in May 2009 and after an evaluation, the proposal from Invap-Isolux was selected as the "economically most advantageous offer," according to NRG.
The group noted that in the coming months it intends to develop and test the feasibility of various financing plans and synchronize the Pallas project with the financial resources it has available.
NRG estimated the construction of the Pallas reactor would require an investment of several hundreds of millions of euros, adding that timing and availability of financial resources "will play an important role in the project planning and, therefore, the date that the reactor will enter into operation."
