Israeli electronics industry technology firm Orbotech said that GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., and its subsidiary GE Healthcare Systems Israel (GEMSI) are referring a dispute between the firms to arbitration.
The dispute relates, among other things, to a GEMSI claim that Orbotech Medical Solutions (OMS) has an obligation to supply it with cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) modules at a specific price per module, according to the Yavne, Israel-based company. OMS believes, however, it is under no obligation to supply these modules. The firm said it believes it has a good defense against any such claims and intends to defend itself vigorously.
In a separate dispute, GE has also sued Orbotech in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. In a November 4 filing, GE has claimed breach of contract, requesting specific performance, injunctive relief, declaratory relief, and damages. GE has also filed a motion for a preliminary injunction, according to Orbotech.
In this dispute, GE is claiming that OMS has an obligation to supply GEMSI with 850 CZT modules. This suit is in preliminary stages, and Orbotech said it would file a motion to dismiss the complaint for lack of personal jurisdiction, improper service, and inconvenient forum. Orbotech said it would also seek to continue GE's motion for a preliminary injunction until after the court's ruling on the company's motion to dismiss.
