NVIDIA introduces new GPUs

Graphic-processor developer NVIDIA of Santa Clara, CA, has unveiled a new class of processors based on a new graphics-processing unit (GPU) that will benefit some radiology applications.

The NVIDIA Tesla brand will offer GPU computing products designed for scientists and engineers and will provide additional capabilities in computationally intensive areas, such as MRI processing.

The company said that running electromagnetic simulations using NVIDIA's computer hardware will accelerate processing by as much as 25 times, and apply a greater level of complexity to analysis and optimization of medical products.

The new technology also is expected to greatly reduce the processing of molecular structures, which previously took weeks to complete.
