The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has begun taking comments on whether it should change its policy regarding any MR angiography (MRA) applications that currently are not covered.
CMS recently reconsidered its national noncoverage policy for MRI for blood-flow determination, permitting local Medicare contractors to make determinations within their own jurisdictions.
While reviewing published scientific evidence for that MRI application, the agency noted that it "became aware of evidence that may speak to one or more currently noncovered indications for MR angiography (MRA). We are opening this national coverage analysis to review the evidence on the current noncovered indications for MRA."
The 30-day comment period began with the October 7 announcement. CMS will accept feedback until November 6.
