SCCT to publish coronary CTA guidelines

The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) has crafted a report to establish standardization in the cardiovascular CT community on how to appropriately read, interpret, and diagnose coronary CT angiography (CTA) scans.

The "Guidelines for the Interpretation and Reporting of Coronary Computed Tomographic Angiography" will be published in the March/April 2009 issue of the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.

The interpretation section, designed to convey diagnostic information to the treating physician with as much clarity and accuracy as possible, will contain recommendations on interpretation formats, such as the transaxial, multiplanar reformatted (MPR), and maximum intensity projection (MIP) views, and how they should be interpreted.

The reporting section will highlight the importance of implementing standardized reporting and offer recommendations for indication for procedure, patient clinical data, image acquisition data, image quality, clinical scan findings, interpretation, and, when appropriate, clinical recommendations.
