GE, Abbott break off acquisition

The deal is off. Nearly six months after GE Healthcare announced its $8.13 billion bid to acquire the primary in vitro and point-of-care diagnostics businesses of Abbott Laboratories of Abbott Park, IL, the companies have mutually terminated the agreement.

In a short statement, GE and Abbott said they had worked diligently to complete the transaction, but were unable to reach agreement on final terms and conditions. As a result, it was in the best interest of both companies to mutually terminate their agreement and discussions, according to GE of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K.
