Philips, RaySearch expand alliance

Royal Philips Electronics, the parent company of Philips Medical Systems of Andover, MA, and Stockholm-based RaySearch Laboratories announced today that they intend to expand their relationship to develop advanced image-guided and adaptive radiation therapy products.

The companies have been collaborating since 2000, and have formed the Image Guided Adaptive Radiotherapy (IGART) Consortium to be led by Dr. David Jaffray of Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. The new agreement being announced today will mark the beginning of a product phase of the alliance, according to the companies.

In related news, Philips announced that it has started the first global commercial shipments of its Brilliance CT Big Bore Oncology system, a dedicated CT system designed for radiation oncology applications.
