As part of the initiative to develop best-practice structured report templates, RSNA has been promoting the need to develop a set of international standards for radiology reporting. This poster presentation will review the progress of these efforts.

Dr. Charles Kahn, chief of the division of informatics at the Medical College of Wisconsin, will discuss the importance of standards bodies for Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) and DICOM, and of providing venues for the initiative to bring template-based radiology reporting into clinical practice.

The IHE Radiology group is developing a Management of Radiology Report Templates (MRRT) profile to support mechanisms for templates to be queried by, pulled from, or pushed to information systems. DICOM Working Group 8 for structured reporting is developing DICOM Supplement 155.

The participation of information system vendors is welcomed, and Kahn will discuss the industry's contributions to this initiative.
