Positron emission mammography (PEM) developer Naviscan PET Systems plans to introduce a new design of its high-resolution PET scanner, PEM Flex Solo II, and new image viewing and interpretation software, PEMView, at this year's RSNA conference in Chicago.

2006 11 14 11 59 09 706Photonics improvements, through the use of lutetium-based crystals, in the new Solo II PEM device yield higher count-rate sensitivity while maintaining resolution capabilities of 1.5-2 mm. In addition, Solo II has added an articulating arm, as well as a motorized C-arm and compression capability, enabling technologists to more easily position patients for optimal views and improved chest wall access, according to the Rockville, MD-based Naviscan.

Naviscan will also introduce PEMView image viewing and interpretation software. The Web-based PEMView incorporates user-configurable image analysis tools, as well as an embedded lexicon for standardized report generation, the company said.

The commercial release of both PEM Flex Solo II and PEMView will be in early 2007.
