Naviscan PET Systems

Positron emission mammography (PEM) developer Naviscan PET Systems of Rockville, MD, will introduce its PEM flex PET scanner biopsy option at this year's RSNA show.

The feature provides the capability to conduct real-time stereotactic biopsy of lesions under high-resolution molecular imaging guidance, according to the firm. Naviscan said that the biopsy option provides accurate positioning of vacuum-core biopsy device and tissue marker using PET image data, and is compatible with the ATEC breast biopsy device from Suros Surgical Systems of Indianapolis.

The investigational technology has not yet been cleared for market by the FDA. Naviscan said it plans to introduce the product to the U.S. breast cancer diagnosis and surgical planning market in the spring or summer of 2006.
