Medspira to launch Breath Hold ES at ECR

Medspira plans to introduce a new respiratory motion control device for MRI and oncology applications at the upcoming European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna.

Breath Hold ES (extra sensitive) features breathing pattern visualization optimized for MRI exams, as well as diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy procedures involving the lungs and upper abdomen, according to Medspira. It allows patients to monitor their own breathing patterns based on biofeedback delivered by the device's visual display. Breath Hold ES registers respiratory motion in smaller increments than Medspira's original Breath Hold version to enable greater precision in breathing control.

The new Breath Hold ES device registers breathing motion on its LED light display at levels ranging from 2 mm to 0.5 mm of chest movement. It combines an expandable bellows system and pressure-sensitive transducer tube, which wraps around the patient's chest or stomach to measure changes in abdominal girth due to patient respiration, Medspira said.
