Siemens to feature new rad therapy tools at ASTRO

Siemens Healthcare plans to highlight new radiation therapy (RT) systems and upgrades at the upcoming American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) meeting in San Antonio.

The company will showcase its new, entry-level Biograph Horizon PET/CT system, a 16-slice scanner with a 70-cm bore that has not yet been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It will also highlight its new syngo.via RT Image Suite software, which allows multimodality viewing and contouring in radiation therapy planning, as well as the combination of its PET/CT technology with the respiratory gating for scanners (RGSC) protocol from Varian Medical Systems, which synchronizes workflow between diagnostic imaging and respiratory-gated treatment delivery.

The company also plans to feature the work-in-progress radiation therapy version of its day optimizing throughput (DOT) package, which provides users with guidance on how to incorporate MRI into the RT workflow. Finally, Siemens will introduce a new prototype for MR-only simulation on its syngo.via Frontier research platform, Siemens said.
