Paramed to debut new MROpen applications in 2015

MR developer Paramed Medical Systems said it plans to debut new clinical applications for its MROpen scanner in the coming year.

The new applications will allow the device to be used in interventional MR procedures as well as in hybrid operating rooms -- those equipped with advanced imaging devices -- to assess the outcome of neurosurgery and spine surgery in real-time, the company said.

Interventional applications will include specific MR-guided procedures such as thermoablation, vertebroplasty, cervical and lumbar nucleolysis, pulsed radiofrequency treatment, needle biopsy of the musculoskeletal system, and ozone therapy.

Hybrid OR applications will include scanning patients in the same position in which they were operated on, which will allow users to identify a tumor's real position and shape and increase the success rate of surgeries, according to the firm.
