ASRT launches medical relief readiness series

The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) has launched an online educational series that will train radiologic technologists to serve in the field of medical disaster relief and in developing countries.

The six-module Medical Relief Readiness series will offer information about volunteering for service, adjusting to new working conditions, and understanding differences in the workplace. It will also provide an overview of local health concerns and common tropical diseases, as well as background information about how to assemble a volunteer team, ASRT said.

The first five modules in the series are worth five continuing education credits, while the sixth module, which outlines the necessary documents and planning steps required before travel, is a bonus course, according to the society. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a document from ASRT recognizing their achievement.

Half of the proceeds from the Medical Relief Readiness series will be donated to the ASRT Foundation to fund travel grants for radiologic technologists to improve medical care in underserved areas worldwide, ASRT said.
