The Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA) said it applauded Congress for voting to suspend the medical device excise tax for two years.
The suspension of the 2.3% excise tax was included in the stopgap spending bill to reopen the government. The legislation passed the Senate on January 22 by a vote of 81-18, and President Donald Trump signed the bill after it was approved later in the day by the House of Representatives with a vote of 266-150.
The tax suspension ensures that imaging companies will be able to continue investing in technologies to improve patient care, according to Joe Robinson, MITA chairman and senior vice president of health systems solutions at Philips Healthcare.
"We are encouraged by the bipartisan support in Congress and hope that policymakers will continue their work toward a long-term solution to the tax," Robinson said in a statement.
