Varian lands $115M NY proton therapy deal

Radiation therapy vendor Varian Medical Systems has inked a deal valued at approximately $115 million to equip the New York Proton Center in Manhattan with its ProBeam intensity-modulated proton therapy system.

Set to be the first proton therapy facility in New York, the New York Proton Center will be operated by New York Proton Management, a consortium of New York healthcare institutions that includes Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Mount Sinai Health System, Montefiore Health System, and ProHealth Medical Management. It will have four treatment rooms and a research room and is scheduled to open its doors in the first half of 2018.

Varian said it will provide the center with its ProBeam system, Aria information management system, Eclipse treatment planning software, and 10 years of service.
