IBA receives funds for Chinese proton therapy center

Proton therapy developer Ion Beam Applications (IBA) has received an initial payment for a contract to establish a proton therapy center in China.

The deal with Zhuozhou Jian Kang Qiao Investment will provide a facility in Zhuozhou in the Hebei province, IBA said. It will be the first proton therapy center in North China and is expected to treat as many as 2,000 patients per year, beginning in late 2016.

IBA will equip the new center with its ProteusPlus multiroom system, which will include five treatment rooms, four isocentric-gantry treatment rooms, and a fixed-beam treatment room, as well as dosimetry equipment. IBA estimates that the contract is worth more than $100 million, including service.
