A consortium of five New York City hospitals has been granted privileges to send patients to a New Jersey proton therapy center, the only such center in the New York/New Jersey region.
Hospitals belonging to the New York Proton Center consortium signed an agreement giving them access to ProCure Proton Therapy Center in Somerset, NJ. The center opened in March 2012 and is operated by ProCure in partnership with CentraState Healthcare System and Princeton Radiation Oncology.
Members of the consortium are Continuum Health Partners, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Montefiore Medical Center, Mount Sinai Medical Center, and NYU Langone Medical Center. The consortium was originally formed to build a dedicated proton therapy center for New York City, but the project isn't expected to be completed until 2016, according to published reports.
The deal with ProCure will enable patients from the consortium hospitals to begin receiving proton therapy immediately at the Somerset facility.
