Kazerooni to chair ACS Lung Cancer Roundtable

Dr. Ella Kazerooni has been named as chair of the American Cancer Society (ACS) National Lung Cancer Roundtable.

Roundtable members include various health organizations, as well as advocacy groups, corporate entities, and health insurers, according to the American College of Radiology (ACR). The roundtable is expected to collaborate on issues related to lung cancer screening and testing best practices, insurance requirements and costs, and policy requirements.

Kazerooni is currently chair of the ACR Lung Cancer Screening Committee and the ACR Thoracic Imaging Panel, as well as a professor of radiology at the University of Michigan. She said she looks forward to shaping a future through this collaboration, "where a diagnosis of lung cancer is no longer received as a death sentence, but instead, when caught early through screening, becomes a treatable and survivable cancer."

The roundtable will focus its efforts on ensuring access to high-quality screening for those at high-risk for lung cancer, while working to ensure that patients receive timely, patient-centered, state-of-the-art care for all stages of the disease, the ACR said.
