New Merge platform geared toward meaningful use

Merge Healthcare will use the RSNA 2012 meeting to launch a new mobile and Internet platform and to demonstrate how its IT products help fulfill U.S. meaningful use standards.

The firm's new mobile app enables referring physicians to send patients to recommended imaging centers, Merge said. The software package also includes a website that helps patients complete preprocedure paperwork and schedule imaging appointments electronically. A cloud-based portal helps imaging centers share results with referring physicians and patients.

The applications will be shown as works-in-progress with commercial introductions planned in 2013.

Merge also plans to describe efforts to comply with meaningful use standards for electronic health records from the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the National Coordinator for Health IT. The federal program offers financial incentives to radiologists for participation.

Merge will show how its approaches to data collection, reporting, and patient communication have allowed radiologists to qualify for $3.1 million in incentive payments so far this year.
