ASTRO annual meeting resumes
 October 30, 2012 -- The schedule is back to normal today, October 30, with a few exceptions at the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) annual meeting at the Boston Convention Center.

Meeting organizers were forced to curtail activities and evacuate the facility at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 29, before the brunt of Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast. The city of Boston planned to suspend all public transportation at 2 p.m.
ASTRO anticipated that more than 11,000 people will attend this year's meeting. However, final numbers are not yet available and are subject to change due to the storm's effects.
To accommodate Monday's postponement, ASTRO rescheduled its business meeting and president's address to 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The rest of Tuesday's agenda remains intact. One educational session and a panel discussion from Monday were canceled.
ASTRO meeting attendees spent much of Monday evening at their hotels and searching for the few restaurants in the city that remained open. While the city of Boston had power throughout the storm, more than 150,000 New Englanders are still without electricity on Tuesday. | |
