The School of Medicine and Public Health will utilize CodeRyte's DataScout clinical information extraction application as part of its participation in a Medicare demonstration project to reduce inappropriate imaging scans, according to the vendor. DataScout identifies and extracts clinical information from free-text and structured medical records, CodeRyte said.

The two-year imaging demonstration will assess the impact of decision-support systems in clinical settings at the University of Wisconsin, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Henry Ford Health System, Maine Medical Center-Physician Hospital Organization, and National Imaging Associates in Avon, CT. The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will ascertain whether decision support boosts appropriate utilization of certain types of MRI, CT, and nuclear medicine exams.
