HHS launches tool to track U.S. health system

The Health Systems Measurement Project will allow policymakers, healthcare providers, and the public to develop consistent data-driven views of changes in critical U.S. health system indicators.
The tool brings together datasets from across federal government agencies that span areas, such as health information technology, access to care, and cost and affordability of healthcare. It presents these indicators by population characteristics, such as age, sex, geography, income level, and insurance coverage.
The measures included in the tool were developed and selected by the HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation. They are aligned with HHS's strategic plan and other departmental strategic planning initiatives.
The measures are drawn primarily from existing publicly available datasets. The tool not only explains how the measures were calculated, but also provides users with direct links to the original data sources.
