Chairman and CEO Paul Viviano has resigned from the company, effective in June. Viviano will become associate vice chancellor for health sciences at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and CEO of the UCSD Health System. He will continue to serve as a director of the company.
Larry Buckelew, a company director since 2009, will become chairman and CEO upon Viviano's departure. Buckelew previously served as president and CEO of Gambro Healthcare from November 2000 through October 2005.
In other company news, Michael Shea will join Alliance as chief operating officer (COO), effective June 4. He most recently served as senior vice president of operations at renal care company DaVita.
In addition, Richard Hall will step down as president of Alliance Oncology to accept a position as CEO of a noncompeting, New York-based company.
