CMS releases outpatient quality data

  • The data include four imaging efficiency measures, which have been calculated for hospital outpatient departments using 2008 claims data billed under the Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS):

    1. MRI lumbar spine for low back pain
    2. Mammography follow-up rates
    3. Abdominal CT, use of contrast material
    4. Thorax CT, use of contrast material

    CMS has created a website called Hospital Compare in collaboration with the Hospital Quality Alliance to make this data on hospital performance and quality of care available to patients, families, and providers.
