  • Patient advocacy groups, disease survivors, caregivers, cardiologists, radiologists, and other imaging advocates will call on the Obama administration and Congress to reject measures that MITA says would adversely affect Medicare patient access to medical imaging services, particularly in rural communities.

Fourteen advocacy groups will release a letter to President Barack Obama and Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, urging them to protect access to medical imaging.

MITA also plans to release a new report of 2008 Medicare data by the Moran Company that shows a continued decline in the growth of procedure volume for advanced imaging services. In addition, the organization will offer a new survey from the Radiology Business Management Association that predicts further decline in volume if additional cuts are made to advanced medical imaging exams.

MITA, a division of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association, plans a rally at 9:30 a.m. in the Rayburn House Office Building Gold Room.

MITA will be joined by the following groups:

    • American Federation for Aging Research
    • American Pain Foundation
    • Black Women's Health Imperative
    • Brain Injury Association of America
    • Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis
