For patients whose pathologies show clear margins and uninvolved lymph nodes, this treatment eliminates the need to undergo conventional radiotherapy following breast conservation surgery.

Patients are selected for the surgery based on protocols specified in the Targeted Intraoperative Radiotherapy Versus Whole-Breast Radiotherapy for Breast Cancer (TARGIT-A) phase III international trial.
