  • HB 338 requires personnel who perform radiography, radiation therapy, or nuclear medicine procedures to complete a series of educational requirements and pass a certification examination, which may include the exam administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board.

The bill includes requirements for limited x-ray machine operators. As outlined in the bill, limited operators may only perform radiography of the chest, abdomen, and axial-appendicular skeleton, and may only perform exams under the supervision of a fully licensed radiologic technologist or a licensed practitioner.

Alaska currently has minimum educational requirements only for personnel who perform fluoroscopy procedures. There are no licensure requirements for the primary radiologic technology disciplines or specialty practice areas.
