AAPM: CT technique helpful for joint replacement

  • The method, called component reconstruction (KCR), was developed at Johns Hopkins University. It incorporates a computerized model of the implant's shape and material content into the 3D image reconstruction process, which produces higher image quality and possibly reduces radiation exposure, according to a statement released by the AAPM.

    J. Webster Stayman, PhD, and colleagues are studying the method in clinical CT systems and are assessing its potential for routine use in hospitals, the association said.
