CCHIT requests comment on certification

A sliver of PACS functionality and requirements for oncology information systems functionality have surfaced in the process of getting products tested, certified, and posted on the U.S. Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology's (ONC) official list of authorized products to meet "meaningful use" criteria.

The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT), one of the ONC's three authorized testing and certification bodies (ONC-ATCBs), is soliciting public comment about its first draft of certification criteria and test scripts for electronic health systems and products used by cancer treatment facilities, and also for the obstetrics component for the women's health category.

The obstetrics component includes two segments relating to ultrasound exams, which are categorized as "Imaging and Waveforms." Criteria WH 04.01 addresses a system's "ability to capture, retrieve, annotate, and display images, including ultrasound and biophysical profiles." Criteria WH 04.03 addresses a system's "ability to capture discretely measurements of an ultrasound."

The oncology information system electronic health record includes requirements to record patient demographics, pathology information, chemotherapy treatment, medication management, guidelines support, therapy management including radiotherapy, research, and a family history of cancer for survivors.

The drafts and comment forms may be accessed and downloaded by clicking here. Public comments may be submitted to CCHIT through December 10, 2010.
