MedCurrent adds OrderRight, new execs

Healthcare practice management firm MedCurrent of Los Angeles has released MedCurrent OrderRight, which links payors, imaging facilities, and physicians with e-ordering technology for patient-specific medical appropriateness information and automated payor preauthorization.

OrderRight features what the company calls a rule authoring studio, designed to provide rule control and clinical and regulatory responsiveness. It can be used as a standalone technology or integrated within a payor's provider portal, electronic medical record system, or RIS.

MedCurrent also hired Steven Gerst, MD, as vice president of medical affairs and Jim Knickle as vice president of sales to promote OrderRight.

Gerst has served as an officer at healthcare organizations that include the former SunHealth (now Premier of Charlotte, NC) and Columbia/HCA of Nashville, TN, where he was president and CEO of the firm's PPO division.

Knickle previously served in sales and marketing management positions that included Eastman Kodak of Rochester, NY; Merge Healthcare of Milwaukee; and the former Marconi Medical Systems.
