Philips, Electron install Russian CT scanner

Philips Healthcare of Andover, MA, and x-ray equipment and software developer Electron of St. Petersburg, Russia, have installed the first Russian-made CT scanner for the Russian healthcare market.

The 16-slice CT scanner has been installed at the Hospital of War Veterans in St. Petersburg, and is expected to serve approximately 17,000 patients per year. The scanner's hardware and software for medical data storage and processing are tailored to the specific demands of Russian hospitals, according to Philips.

By 2013, the two companies plan to have 51% of all high-tech components, such as materials and software, developed and produced in Russia.
