U.S., India to fund low-cost medical devices

The governments of the U.S. and India are soliciting joint project proposals from U.S. and Indian scientists, engineers, and scientific organizations for the development of low-cost medical devices.

The initiative, administered by the Government of India's Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the U.S. National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), aims to foster joint activities between U.S. and Indian scientists and address medical needs in low-resource settings. In addition, the program hopes to take advantage of opportunities and technological advances through the development of appropriate, low-cost medical devices.

Researchers in both countries can apply for grants, with the U.S. component of collaborative projects to be funded through the U.S. National Institutes of Health research grant award mechanism (R03). Funding for the Indian component will be in accordance with DBT terms and conditions regarding the release of R&D grants.

To facilitate collaboration between scientists, NIBIB and DBT have formed a LinkedIn group.
